Mr. Jackson taught me about what is important in life and what is important in music. He preached the Charlie Parker quote, “If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn.” He always encouraged me to be myself, telling me to embrace who I am, not to conform or try to be someone else. That is a valuable thing in both music and life.

Thank you, Mr. Jackson, for mentoring me. You have enriched my life beyond measure. I will be forever touched by your love and passion for all great music and all great people. I will live a better life and be a better person because I knew you.
