Charlie Parker is one of my favorite saxophonists to transcribe. To me, he balances the use of technical prowess and lyrical melodic conception to the highest degree. His solo on K.C. Blues captivated me because of its incredible soulfulness and flurries of technical mastery. Here is my transcription of his solo.
It was an honor to organize the first Tribute to Women in Jazz Concert on behalf of Women in Jazz Collective! It was a wonderful celebration of the ingenuity of women performers and composers at Berklee.
The full concert can be viewed here. (My band starts around 46:35.)
I am excited to share my latest recording “Ishkabibble.” I always enjoy writing tunes for the people close to me, and this one is for my papa. I am so thankful for my wonderful musician and engineer friends for bringing my music to life. Hope you enjoy!
Wow, it’s so hard to believe that it is already my third year at Berklee! Where has the time gone?!
Lots of great things have been going on recently. I am now a member of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers)! I am also continuing my work as President of Women in Jazz Collective, a Berklee student club with the mission of empowering female performers, composers, and business people in the jazz community. I have also taken on some new responsibilities including music tutoring, mentoring incoming scholarship students, and joining a new band.
