Alto Saxophonist/Composer Samantha Spear is a budding musician majoring in Performance and Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music. Spear has studied under world-class professors including Shannon LeClaire, Ayn Inserto, Greg Hopkins, and Jim Odgren. She is actively engaged in the Berklee community as a session player, composer, and student. Spear has performed as a featured soloist in the Women’s Musician Network Concert and appeared with guest artists Andy Milne, Samuel Torres, and John Fedchock in performances and masterclasses. During her second year at Berklee, Spear’s original compositions “Keep Steppin’” and “Vulnerable Beauty” were showcased in the Best of Jazz Composition Concerts Fall 2016 and Spring 2017, respectively. Spear is the recipient of the Berklee Presidential Scholarship and the Berklee Jazz Composition Achievement Award. Spear is a founding member and president of the Women in Jazz Collective, a Berklee student club with the mission of empowering female jazz performers, composers, and businesspeople.
